What consensus has been agreed at COP28?
The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) was held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and recently ended. During COP28, 198 parties agreed on something called "The UAE Consensus."
This important agreement is like a big plan to help with climate issues and to stop the Earth from getting too warm. The countries want to work together to prevent the bad effects of climate change and are ready to take the necessary steps.
What does the consensus say?
The consensus encourages everyone involved to stop using fossil fuels to achieve net zero by 2050. Parties are also asked to take big steps for the upcoming Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) by supporting various targets to reduce pollution.
NDC is a plan to cut down on pollution and deal with the impacts of climate change. Each country in the Paris Agreement must create and update an NDC every five years. The consensus has a goal to triple the use of renewables and double energy efficiency by 2030.
The consensus also says that we need more money to deal with environmental changes. These are some important promises agreed upon under the UAE consensus. Throughout COP28, important decisions have been made to help fight the effects of climate change.

What are some other significant decisions that have been taken at COP28?
Countries at COP28 agreed to create a new fund called the Loss and Damage Fund to help with the impacts of climate-related storms and droughts. The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed, announced a $30 billion climate fund called ALTÉRRA. It will be used for global climate solutions.
The 'COP28 UAE Declaration on Climate and Health' has been agreed upon and supported by 144 countries. Its goal is to speed up making health systems that are good for the environment, strong, and fair.
The ‘COP28 UAE Declaration on Agriculture, Food, & Climate’ has the support of 158 countries. It wants to ensure that farming and food systems are good for the environment and linked with climate change responses. These are some decisions made at COP28. Let’s hope the countries can work together to fight the effects of climate change.
