<h5>What is this cool new invention?</h5><p>WasteShark is an invention by Ran Marine Technologies - a company that uses technology to help clean up water bodies on the Earth. The name ‘WasteShark’ sounds pretty cool, doesn’t it? The name might be misleading because this invention doesn’t exactly look like a shark (we were disappointed too!).</p><p>The WasteShark is a robot that roams around water bodies. Its mouth is built very wide, so that it can scoop up a lot of plastic waste from rivers in one go! The WasteShark doesn’t only collect plastic, but it can also rid the waters of unwanted debris and biomass. Its mouth is modelled after the world’s biggest fish - the Whale Shark. Hence, the name!</p><p>It runs on electricity, so it can roam around in the water non-stop for a total distance of 5kms. </div><h5>Other cool features of the WasteShark!</h5><p>What makes the WasteShark robotic, is that it runs on electricity and is controlled via 4G. The WasteShark can work in two modes: autonomous mode or remote-control mode.</p><p>The new robotic shark is smart too! Not only does it clean up, but it also gathers information from its surroundings through its cameras and sensors. WasteShark also collects data about duckweed, algae and other aquatic plants found in the river. This information helps the authorities determine how healthy the river is!</p><p>The WasteShark “gobbles up” the waste from the river and stores it in its bin compartment. That way, when the shark takes all the waste to the shore - it can be recycled and properly disposed of.</p><p>The WasteShark currently floats around the Canary Wharf in London, England. It collects plastic waste from the river Thames. After all, human beings too could fish out plastic from the rivers and oceans. So how is the new WasteShark going to be a game-changer? For starters, it is a very sustainable technology.</p><p>Earlier, if we wanted to clean up plastic or waste in the ocean, a team of divers and sea crew would have to set out on ships to fish out the waste from the ocean. This required time, energy and valuable fuel used by ships and boats! These big ships also end up disturbing the natural animal and plant life of the ocean.</p><p>Technology like the WasteShark would mean that so many rivers and water bodies can be cleaned up regularly without the help of human beings at all.
