<h4><strong>Who has conducted the study?</strong></h4><p>Have you ever felt like eating ice cream and potato chips every day? Well, a study says that it is a kind of addiction. Experts say ultra-processed foods (UPF), like ice cream, potato chips, soft drinks, etc., are just as addictive as nicotine and other drugs. A study has found that many adults are addicted to UPFs.</p><p>Ashley Gearhardt, a University of Michigan professor, and other researchers have conducted the study. This addiction is comparable to those shown by drug and nicotine addicts in adults. However, the level of addiction in children is unusual. The problems include changes in the brain, bad emotion control, declining physical and mental health, etc. This causes a poor quality of life.</p><p>Refined carbohydrates and fats trigger dopamine release in the brain, similar to addictive drugs like nicotine and alcohol. Due to this kind of similarity, foods with high levels of refined carbohydrates or added fats can be very addictive.</p><p>Ashley Gearhardt used her Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS) in this study. The YFAS was created in 2009 by Gearhardt to study the signs of addictive-like eating behaviour. Previous research has also shown that sugary or fatty foods make healthier choices less tempting. Some people may be able to consume some potato chips and be happy with it. Others might not, and this can lead to an addiction. So, people (including you) need to control the amount of potato chips, cold drinks, ice creams, etc., consumed. Overdoing anything can cause an addiction and affect a person’s health.</p><p>Having them occasionally is fine, but it must not become an addiction. Many scientists also said that these kinds of foods should include a health advisory. This can warn people and also help reduce the addiction level.</p>
