India mourns the loss of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at 92, leaving behind a legacy of extraordinary achievements.

A sad day for India!

On 26th December 2024, India’s former Prime Minister (PM), Dr Manmohan Singh, passed away at the age of 92. He had been very sick for a few months and died in a hospital in Delhi called AIIMS.

Dr. Singh was PM from 2004 to 2014. Before that, he was India’s Finance Minister (FM) from 1991 to 1996.

Dr. Singh also worked in other important jobs, like being the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. People around the world are sad about his death. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others have shared kind messages to remember him.

Dr Manmohan Singh was born in 1932 in a small village in India. He was very smart and studied at some of the best schools. He went to Punjab University and then to the University of Cambridge in the UK to study Economics. Later, he studied at Oxford University.

Dr Singh started working for the government in 1971. He became FM in 1991 when India had big financial problems.

As the FM, Dr Manmohan Singh made big changes to help India’s economy. He lowered taxes, allowed foreign companies to do business in India, etc. These actions helped India grow and made prices more stable.

When Dr Singh became PM, he kept working to make India a better place. He introduced many new ideas to help the country progress and improve people's lives.
