<h5>What are the Padma Awards?
</h5>  <p>The Padma Awards are one of India's highest civilian honours. These awards are presented annually on the eve of Republic Day. The awards are divided into three categories, which are - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. The Padma Vibhushan awards were created in 1954.</p>
<p>It was later divided into three classes: Pahela Varg (first class), Dusra Varg (second class), and Tisra Varg (third class). In 1955, they were renamed Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.</p>
<p>The award aims to honour accomplishments in all activities that involve an aspect of public service. These awards are given in several fields such as art, social work, science and engineering, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.</p>
<p>The 'Padma Vibhushan' is given for extraordinary and distinguished service; the 'Padma Bhushan' is given for distinguished service of a high order; and the 'Padma Shri' is given for distinguished service in any field. The President of India confers these awards at a ceremonial occasion held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

      </figure> <p>The Padma Awards are given out based on the recommendations of the Padma Awards Committee, which is appointed by the Prime Minister each year. The public is welcome to participate in the nomination process. It is possible to nominate oneself. The committee's recommendations are sent to the Prime Minister and President of India for approval.</p>
<p>While the Padma Awards Committee does not use a strict formula for selection, it does consider an individual's lifetime achievements when making a decision. The achievements of the individual to be chosen should include some element of public service.</p>
<p>This year’s awards have been presented recently. 106 Padma Awards have been given, which include 6 Padma Vibhushans, 9 Padma Bhushans, and 91 Padma Shri awards. 19 of the recipients are women, and 7 have received the awards posthumously.</p>
<p>Some famous people to have received the awards this year are former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, tabla player Zakir Hussain, Sudha Murty (chairperson of Infosys Foundation), etc.
</p> <h5>What do the Padma Awardees receive?

      </figure> <p>The recipients do not get a cash payment. Instead, they receive a certificate signed by the President and a medallion. They can wear this medallion at public and government ceremonies.</p>
<p>The awardees do not receive a title (like a person can add Sir before their name if they receive a knighthood), and the recipients are not required to use them before or after their names.</p>
<p>While no direct approval is requested from the awardee, they do receive a call from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) before the final list is revealed. If they do not wish to accept the honour, they may do so at that time, and their names will be deleted quietly.
