If the WDs are severe, they cause rain in the plains and snow uphill. However, there has been no significant activity this time. This winter, strong WD currents did not reach India due to global warming.</p><p>The dry spell has resulted in less snowfall so far. Also, the little amount of snow that covered the region has melted quickly due to unusually high day temperatures. The lack of snowfall in Gulmarg is affecting businesses in the area.</p><h5>How are businesses in the area getting affected?</h5><p>If the main attraction of an area is not present, businesses are affected. With the lack of snow in Gulmarg so far, the place is seeing fewer tourist activities. Government data says many tourists visited Gulmarg last January. While data for January 2024 has yet to be made available, officials say the number of tourists visiting the place has reduced by 60%.</p><p>This has affected many local businesses and tourism operators, who rely on tourists to earn a living. Government officials say sports tourism (a main attraction in the area) has been severely impacted in the region. A few people are only coming for leisure tourism.</p><p>Many hotel owners are likewise concerned about whether tourists will visit Gulmarg.
