<h5>What do we know about the Starship?</h5><p>The Starship is the world’s tallest and most powerful rocket and has been built by SpaceX. NASA will use this for its Artemis III mission to transport astronauts to the moon in late 2025. Starship was tested last week when it was launched from Starbase, SpaceX’s launch facility in Texas, US.</p><p>Spacecraft like Starship are made of many different parts. One such part is the booster, which is supposed to push (or boost :p) the rocket away from Earth. Once the booster has done its job, it detaches from the main part of the spacecraft or capsule.</p><p>In Starship’s case, the booster rocket was supposed to separate from the capsule three minutes into the lunch. However, that did now happen and the rocket exploded (thankfully, no one was inside!). Video by Elon Musk.</figcaption> </figure></div><p>The original plan was that the Starship spacecraft would dump its booster rocket into the Gulf of Mexico after taking off. Then, the spacecraft would continue eastward and go around the Earth once before splashing down near Hawaii.</p><p>Despite the explosion, the test flight did achieve some of SpaceX’s goals. These included testing the current capabilities of Starship like reaching the Earth's orbit, etc. In fact, even the liftoff from the launchpad was a big success for a huge rocket like Starship.</p><p>Now that the test is complete, Elon Musk, the owner of SpaceX, has said that the data collected from the test flight will help scientists and engineers improve the Starship and perform necessary fixes before its next test.</p><h5>What are SpaceX’s plans with the Starship spacecraft?</h5><div class="raw-html-embed"><figure> <iframe width="100%" height="350" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cBi-i9dYutM" title="Starship Explosion Video: Watch Elon Musk's Rocket Explode After Launch | WSJ" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> <figcaption> The launch and explosion (at 4:00) video of the Starship spacecraft. Video by Wall Street Journal. </figcaption> </figure></div><p>After the Starship has been tested successfully, it will be used to send astronauts and full laboratories to and from the Moon and Mars. The spacecraft will also be used to bring back large amounts of rock from Mars to analyse them.</p><p>The spacecraft will also be used to launch satellites and telescopes. In the future, even we might be able to use this spacecraft and explore space in the form of space tourism (children’s day trip to space, anyone?).</p><h5>What did we learn from this article?</h5><p>We learnt that failure is a part of one’s life. Failure can teach us problem-solving and can help us find areas of improvement for the future.</p><p>In this case, SpaceX is not sad that its rocket exploded but it is celebrating the amount of knowledge the company has gained from its failure.</p><p>Let’s hope SpaceX learns from its mistakes and the Starship is able to successfully take us to the Moon, Mars and beyond!</p>
