Five-star hotels are decorated and maintained so beautifully that one won’t even find a fly on their premises.

But, a social media post featuring a street dog peacefully sleeping at Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Hotel (a five-star hotel) has gained attention.

The post-owner revealed the dog has been at the hotel since birth. Ratan Tata has instructed hotel staff to treat stray animals well if they enter the property.

Mr. Tata, Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group (the organisation that owns the hotel), is known for his love of animals.

The Tata Trust (whose chairman is Ratan Tata) launched the Small Animal Hospital Mumbai to treat dogs, cats, and other small animals.

He has supported initiatives to protect animals, including an organisation that makes reflective collars for street dogs to improve their visibility to drivers.

He has encouraged people to check under their cars for any dogs or cats taking shelter so that they don’t get accidentally injured when starting the vehicle.

What can you do?

You can keep a bowl of water and food outside for street dogs, cats, and birds. Also, ask your parents to check for animals under their cars before starting them.

You can also spread awareness about animal protection. But also remember - never approach a stray animal without an adult.
