Research finds something shocking!
A new study has found something really surprising! People liked poetry written by artificial intelligence (AI) more than poetry by famous human poets!
The study also showed that people couldn’t tell the difference between AI poems and poems by famous poets like William Shakespeare.
How was the study conducted?
The researchers used ChatGPT-3.5 to write poems in the style of famous poets. They asked people to read ten poems: five written by humans and five by AI. Each person got a random mix of poems.
When the researchers asked the participants to guess which poems were written by AI, they only got it right 46% of the time!
In another test, 696 people read and rated poems on different things like rhythm and creativity. Some were told the poems were by AI, others thought they were by humans, and some didn't know who wrote them.
What did the study find?
The results were surprising! People who thought they were reading poems by humans liked the human poems more. But, when they didn’t know who wrote the poems, they liked the AI poems more than the human ones!
Reason for preferring AI-written poems.
Why did people like AI poems? The researchers think it’s because AI poems are easier to understand. People thought the simpler, clearer language meant humans wrote them.
But experts say AI poems don’t have the same feelings, details, and pictures that human poems do. These special parts make human poetry unique.
Still, AI poems can be easier for people to understand, especially if they are not used to old poems.
