<h5>Is human life possible beyond Earth?</h5>  <p>Scientists have been trying to answer this question for many years. They routinely check exoplanets to see if they can support human life. Most of these planets have their faults - extremely hot or cold, very little or too much gravity, atmosphere toxic to humans, etc.</p>
<p>Over the years, scientists have found some exoplanets that are similar to the Earth. But there is no proof that human life can sustain on these planets. 
While the search for suitable planets continues, scientists at the University of California (UCLA) have discovered places on the moon that can support human life. Let’s find out more details about this exciting discovery!
</p> <h5>Wait. Why are we even looking for alternatives to the Earth?</h5>  <p>Unfortunately, there are quite a few reasons why scientists are busy looking for alternatives to the Earth. The climate is changing at an alarming pace! If things keep going this way, we may have no option but to leave the Earth in a few thousand years. </p>
<p>Another reason is overpopulation. Research has predicted that there will be 8 billion people on Earth by the end of this year. The increasing population is putting more strain on the resources our planet has to offer - cutting down trees to make houses, polluting natural water sources, etc. </p>
<p>If the Earth becomes uninhabitable or more space is needed, couldn’t another planet or even the moon be an ideal alternative? Let’s find out. 
</p> <h5>Okay. So how soon can we move to the moon?</h5>  <p>Hold your horses! Scientists have just discovered that certain shady places in pits on the moon have temperatures in and around 17.2° Celsius throughout the day. To put this in perspective, when it’s 17° Celsius in India, we can put on a thin jacket to feel comfortable!</p>
<p>Scientists think that these thermally stable shady areas are perfect to set up base camps. These camps can be used to stay on the moon for long periods of time and explore the moon with ease.</p>
<p>Other areas of the moon aren’t suitable for such base camps. Why, you ask? Well, temperatures on the rest of the surface of the moon can reach up to 127° Celsius during the day and negative 173° Celsius during the night.

      </figure> <p>Moon pits or lunar pits are the holes that can be seen on the surface of the moon. They were discovered in 2009. The size of every pit is different. It ranges from about 5 meters to over 900 meters in diameter. Three pits were first discovered using photos received from the Japanese Kaguya spacecraft.
Most pits on the moon were discovered in big craters and in an area called “lunar maria”. It is believed that these pits were formed after the roof of different caves on the moon collapsed. 
</p> <h5>Can humans ever live on the moon permanently?</h5>  <p>Not yet! But some brilliant scientists are working to make this happen! We’ve figured out how to stay on the moon for longer periods. But that’s just one problem down and plenty to go!</p>
<p>We’re yet to figure out how to navigate around the moon since there’s no gravity, having a constant supply of oxygen, radical temperatures in most areas of the moon, etc. This latest discovery is a small step towards humans living on the moon!</p>
