She is a tennis player whose strong style of play redefined women's tennis. Her older sister, Venus Williams, is also a professional tennis player. Both sisters were encouraged to play tennis by their parents.</p>
<p>Serena’s father, Richard Williams, taught her a lot about the sport. In 1991, the family relocated to Florida so that Serena could join a tennis academy. She used to practice for long hours to perfect her sport. She began her professional career in 1995.
Williams drew a lot of attention from the tennis world due to her powerful serves, ground strokes, and outstanding athleticism. She won her first major singles title, the US Open, in 1999. Her accomplishments have led to her being dubbed the Greatest of All Time (GOAT). Recently, after playing for so many years, she announced her retirement.

<p>In August 2022, Williams said she will be retiring from tennis after the 2022 US Open that is being currently held. She was defeated by Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic.
