<h5>Who is Sir David Attenborough?</h5>  <p>Sir David Attenborough is a 96-year-old man who’s inspiring millions of people around the world with his love of planet Earth and all the creatures who live on it. He travels to both popular and little-known corners of the world and, with the help of his team, captures stunning and mesmerising images and videos of the natural world.
Attenborough and his team then weave these rare and beautiful snippets into poetic movies that open up a whole new world of awe and wonder for us. He has been doing this work for the past 68 years. When he first started, these programmes were made in black and white, then colour, then HD; and now his programmes are made in 3D! (Can you believe how far technology has come!)
Some of his best films that you can treat yourself to are ‘The Blue Planet,’ ‘Our Planet,’ ‘The Year The Earth Changed,’ etc.</p> <h5>How did Sir David Attenborough discover his passion for the natural world?</h5>  <p>Sir David Attenborough fell in love with the natural world as a little boy, when he would go exploring his London neighbourhood looking for bugs and insects. Though he lived in a city, that didn’t deter him in his search for wildlife. He kept tanks of different species of fish in his home. He rode his bicycle looking for fossils in wooded areas.
At age eleven, to earn some pocket money, he would capture newts from a pond and sell them to the local university’s zoological department for 3 pence each!</p>
<p>When he grew up, Attenborough turned his passion for wildlife into his profession by writing and narrating wildlife films on TV. His films became really popular and people from all around the world started watching them, discovering little-known wonders of the planet through him.
</p> <h5>Why did he receive the Champion of the Earth prize?</h5>  <p>Recently the United Nations (UN) honoured Sir David Attenborough with the Champions of the Earth Lifetime Achievement award. The Champions of the Earth award is the UN’s highest environmental award that recognises outstanding humans whose actions have a huge positive impact on the environment.</p>

<p>Attenborough was chosen for this award because he has devoted his life to documenting the love story between humans and the natural world.</p>
<p>The chief of the UN Environment Programme, Inger Anderson, said, “If we stand a chance of averting climate and biodiversity breakdowns and cleaning up polluted ecosystems, it’s because millions of us fell in love with the planet that he showed us on television.”
</p> <h5>What does Sir David Attenborough want us to know?</h5>  <p>Nowadays, Sir David Attenborough devotes most of his time to working as an environmental activist, raising awareness about the importance of protecting this precious planet we call home.</p>

<p>At the COP26 climate conference in 2021, he gave one of the most memorable and powerful speeches on the subject where he urged world leaders to turn the tragedy of climate change into a triumph.</p>
