What is the Pegasus spyware?

Spyware is a computer virus that steals personal information such as passwords and your location from your phones or computers. This virus sends this information to a stranger without your permission. The stranger can misuse this information or even sell it to others. Pegasus is the name of spyware made by a company called NSO Group Technologies. It is believed that the spyware is named after Pegasus, the horse with wings in Greek mythology.

How does the Pegasus spyware spread, and what can it do?

Pegasus can be installed on a phone from a simple WhatsApp missed call. Once installed, it can collect photos, videos, web searches, location, and even messages. It can also turn on the camera and mic and use them for spying on the user.

Who used the Pegasus software against whom?

The makers of Pegasus say that it is only used to investigate and stop crime, and can only be used by the governments of different countries. But a company called Forbidden Stories found that Pegasus is being misused to spy on many people such as politicians, lawyers, journalists, and doctors.

How do users keep themselves safe from spyware?

To keep yourself safe from spyware, do not open links or emails which are strange or look dangerous. Only open websites which are safe to use. Only download applications from the Google Play Store on Android, and the App Store on Apple devices.
