Diwali is around the corner, and we are all very excited. We will decorate our homes with candles, lights, diyas, etc. People also burst firecrackers. But, bursting crackers can be harmful to one's health.
Fireworks increase pollutants and dust in the air. It releases harmful substances that are bad for the environment and our health. The smoke from crackers can cause breathing problems, pollute the air, and cause throat and chest congestion. When children and pregnant women are exposed to the toxic substances in firecrackers, they can fall sick.
What other harmful effects do firecrackers have?

Firecracker-related injuries are very common. They can happen in cracker markets or even while bursting them. Animals and birds also get frightened by the sound of crackers.
To make firecrackers, poor young children are forced to work under dangerous conditions. This puts their lives in danger. We can only save them if we stop bursting crackers and force these factories to close.

The Delhi government has prohibited the making, storing, selling, and bursting of firecrackers this year. Anyone who does so will have to give fines and go to jail. The Karnataka pollution control board has said crackers can only be burst between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Green crackers are being promoted in many places like Karnataka, Chandigarh, etc. The citizens have been asked to burst them instead of the harmful ones.

Green crackers cause less harm to the environment than regular crackers do. They are made with less harmful materials. The materials used in such crackers also help in releasing less dust when burned.
