Where is the world’s highest railway bridge going to open?
The world's highest railway bridge will begin operation soon for rail traffic. The railway bridge has been built over the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir. It is 359 metres (1,178 feet) tall and connects Bakkal and Kauri in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.
The bridge has passed all necessary tests and is now ready for opening.
What tests have been conducted?

It is important to test the safety of bridges before they are opened to prevent any accidents and damages. So, many tests like high-velocity wind, extreme temperature, and earthquake-prone tests were carried out to ensure the safety of the world's highest railway bridge. The results of the tests were positive (yay!).
The Chenab railway bridge will last 120 years and can withstand winds of up to 260 kilometres per hour (kmph). After a 20-year delay, the people of Jammu and Kashmir will finally have this bridge.
What was the reason for the delay?

The bridge project was approved in 2003, and construction began in 2004. But, construction was stopped due to safety concerns. In 2008, the government granted a contract to restart the construction of the bridge. Nonetheless, the project did not meet many deadlines, causing severe delays.
The good thing is that the bridge will now be opened soon. The construction of the long-awaited bridge can bring people joy and relief. It may also increase economic opportunities in the area.
