<h5>Who won three medals at the Asian Para Games?</h5><p>Sheetal Devi, a 16-year-old archer from Jammu and Kashmir, won three medals at this year’s Asian Para Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. She has won two gold and one silver medal for India in archery.</p><p>The World Archery, the sports governing body, says she is the first female archer without arms to compete in tournaments internationally. Video by Parveen Kaswan, IFS.</figcaption></figure></div><h5>What do we know about Sheetal Devi?</h5><p>Sheeta Devi was diagnosed with phocomelia syndrome when she was born. Phocomelia syndrome is a rare disorder in which one or both upper or lower limbs are absent, leaving the hand or foot directly attached to the body. Sheetal Devi uses her legs, feet, and shoulder to compete in archery (whoa!).</p><p>She said that initially, she couldn’t lift the bow correctly. However, after months of practice, it became easier for her. She says that her parents and her friends supported her. Even though she has no arms, she practised hard enough to reach the position she is in now. She also said that her coaches helped her a lot.</p><p>She is an inspiration to many. Her achievements show that with proper determination, one can achieve anything they want. Video by Express Sports.</figcaption></figure></div><h5>What is the Asian Para Games?</h5><p>The Asian Para Games, also known as Para Asiad, is a multi-sport tournament for athletes with physical disabilities. This tournament is organised by the Asian Paralympic Committee and is held every four years. This tournament takes place after the Asian Games ends. This year’s games began on 22nd October 2023 and concluded on 28th October 2023.</p><p>This year’s tournament was originally supposed to take place in 2022 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the tournament's fourth edition, and over 3,000 athletes participated from 44 countries. The Asian Para Games was first held in 2010 in China.</p><p>The next tournament will be held in 2026 in Japan. India finished fifth on the medal table this year, with 111 medals (29 gold, 31 silver, and 51 bronze). This is India’s highest-ever medal tally in this competition. The first three teams on the table are China, Iran, and Japan.</p>
