The LA28 Organising Committee suggested cricket, along with four other sports (baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse, and squash) for inclusion. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) agreed to it during the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai.

Cricket will be played at the LA 2028 Olympics in a T20 format. It will be a six-team T20 tournament for both men and women. The USA will automatically participate as the host country. The remaining five spots will be open for other teams worldwide to compete for.
