A Sad Day
On June 12, 2025, something very sad happened in India. A plane named Air India Flight 171 (AI-171) crashed just after takeoff from Ahmedabad.
The crash killed 279 people. It was one of the worst plane crashes in India.
The Plane And The People?
The plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. It is a big plane that is made to fly very far.
The pilot was Captain Sumeet Sabharwal. He was an experienced pilot and had flown planes for many years. His co-pilot was Clive Kundar. There were 10 more people in the crew.
There were 230 passengers on the plane. Some were from India. Others were from countries like the UK, Portugal, and Canada. The plane was going to from Ahmedabad to London.
How Did the Crash Happen?
The plane took off around 1:39 PM. Just after takeoff, the pilots sent a mayday call. A “mayday” is a message sent by pilots that means there is a big problem in the flight.
The plane went up only 650 feet and then crashed at 1:40 PM. It hit a hostel building at BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad.
Sadly, 241 people on the plane and 33 people on the ground lost their lives. But one man, named Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, survived. He was sitting in seat 11A and got out of the emergency exit just before the crash.
Who Helped After the Crash?
Rescue teams arrived fast. The NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), police, and fire teams worked together to save many people.
They helped people and took the injured to the hospital. Special phone numbers were made to help families find out about their loved ones.
Finding Out What Happened
The government is now checking what went wrong. Experts think the engines may have stopped. They are working to get more information.
The black box of the plane has been found. It is an important device that records what happens in the plane. Its name is 'black box', but it is actually orange in colour. It will help us know why the crash happened much better.
We Pray for Everyone
This crash made people around the world sad.
We send love and prayers to all the families of the victims, and we hope something like this never happens again.
