What is a data breach?
Imagine you have a special box for your favourite toys and snacks. Only you can open it. But one day, someone opens it and takes your toys and snacks without asking. That's like a data breach.
Similarly, companies collect information like names, addresses, etc., to provide services like food delivery or internet connection. They keep this data in secure places, just like your special box.
Only the company can access this data. If someone steals this information, it is known as a data breach.
A data breach occurs when information is stolen from a system or server without the owner's permission.
Data breach at Airtel!
Recently, a hacker claimed to have stolen information about Indian customers from Airtel (the telecommunications company).
They are trying to sell this data, which includes information like mobile numbers, names, addresses, etc., on illegal websites.
But Airtel says its data is safe and hasn't been stolen. They believe someone started the rumour to damage their reputation.
How do we stay safe while using technology?
Whenever you use the Internet, remember these important rules:
- Never share personal information, like where you are or your passwords.
- Sometimes, strangers might pretend to be your family and ask for things like passwords or addresses. Don't tell them anything.
- Some people might pretend to be from the police or a delivery company and ask for money. These are usually bad people trying to trick you.
If you are in any of these situations, let your parents know immediately.
