Is IPL a popular tournament?
The Indian Premier League (IPL) was launched in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Since then, it has become a very popular cricket tournament featuring talented players like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Faf du Plessis, etc.
Young players get to show their talent in this tournament. Many players are also chosen for their national teams depending on their IPL performance. The IPL has teams from various cities around India, gaining a lot of support. All these factors make IPL very popular.
The final match of the IPL 2023 was played on 29th May. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the IPL this year. This year’s tournament introduced specific changes, which made it even more exciting to watch.
Whom did CSK defeat to win the IPL 2023 trophy?
CSK won the IPL 2023 final match by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets. GT had scored 214 runs in 20 overs, but then the rain stopped the play. When play restarted, CSK had to chase a 171-run target in 15 overs. The score was reduced as it was already getting very late.
The CSK batters performed well to achieve the target. With this win, Dhoni matches Rohit Sharma's record of winning five IPL trophies as captain. CSK joins Mumbai Indians (MI) as the most successful IPL team. Both teams have won five IPL titles.
How was CSK’s performance in this year’s IPL?
Chennai Super Kings started the tournament with a defeat. Still, the players remained calm and played well to finish second in the league table. They won eight matches to get to Qualifier 1, where they defeated GT to reach the finals. However, GT got another chance to reach the finals as they faced MI in the Qualifier 2 match and won.
The tournament's final match was to be held on 28th May 2023. However, due to continuous rainfall, it was postponed to 29th May 2023. Devon Conway's vital innings in the final helped CSK win the trophy. He was named Player of the Match for his performance.
All the CSK players gave their best this year, especially since CSK finished ninth on the table in IPL 2022. Also, many people supported CSK in the finals, wanting MS Dhoni to win one more trophy before he retired from cricket. Don’t worry, though, as he hasn’t announced his retirement yet.
