What is the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023?

The Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from the 9th to the 14th of April 2023. It is a yearly wrestling tournament. This year’s competition was an important step for athletes hoping to get qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

India’s Nisha Dahiya won the silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 (yay!).

Nisha Dahiya won the biggest medal of her promising wrestling career in this tournament. She won silver in the women's 68kg category. She defeated China's Feng Zhou in the semifinal. However, she lost in the final against Japan's Ami Ishii.

Nisha's silver medal is her first major senior achievement. Her performance in this competition impressed everyone. In this year's event, wrestlers from India won one gold, three silvers, and ten bronze medals.

How has Nisha Dahiya’s career been so far?

Nisha Dahiya is a rising star in Indian wrestling. She was born in Haryana in 1998. When she was 13, she began training under her father at an akhada in Nidani, Jind, Haryana.

In 2021, she won a bronze medal at the World U-23 Wrestling Championships. She was, however, defeated in the bronze medal match at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Despite this defeat, she worked hard and won a silver medal at the recently finished Asian Wrestling Championships.
