Who announced the election dates?

Elections play a vital role in a country's progress. They allow citizens to select leaders who will guide the nation and make important decisions. Recently, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Rajiv Kumar, India's Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), made this announcement.

Think of it like when your school principal informs you about exam dates. Like your principal plans exams, the Election Commission schedules voting dates so everyone knows when to vote.

Just as exams are crucial for your academic growth, elections are essential for our country's development.

The voting in India will happen in seven parts. It starts on 19th April 2024 and ends on 1st June 2024. The results will be announced on 4th June 2024. The seven voting days are 19th April, 26th April, 7th May, 13th May, 20th May, 25th May, and 1st June.

With the release of the election dates, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) starts right away.

What is the Model Code of Conduct?

During school exams, there are important rules to follow, like no cheating or causing trouble. These rules make sure exams are fair. Similarly, the MCC by the ECI is like a rulebook for political parties and candidates to follow before elections in India to keep things fair.

The MCC covers topics like what candidates can say in speeches, how they should behave on election day, what the ruling party can and can't do, etc. It has many rules for everyone to follow. For example, the ruling party can't announce new policies to get votes.

The ECI made the MCC to keep elections fair. If someone breaks the MCC, they might just get a warning. However, breaking any MCC rule may bring legal punishment if that action is also a crime under India’s criminal and election laws.

But it's important to vote in the country's elections. You should also encourage your parents and elders to vote. This article explains the importance of voting.
