<h5>How much fine did the businessman pay?</h5><p>A multimillionaire businessman was fined €121,000 (₹1,07,03,418) for exceeding the speed limit by 30 kilometres per hour (km/h) in Finland (whoa!). The businessman, named Anders Wiklöf, is the chairman and founder of a huge company. He was stopped while driving at 82 km/h.</p><p>His driving license was also suspended for ten days. Before this incident, Wiklöf had earlier been penalised for speeding. The businessman was earlier fined €63,680 (₹56,32,813) and €95,000 (₹84,03,223) for the same offence. These two incidents happened years ago.</p><p>Wiklöf hopes that the fine collected from him will be put to good use by the country’s government.</p><h5>Does everyone in Finland have to pay such a big fine for exceeding the speed limit?</h5><p>No, the country’s fine system is a bit different. Fines are determined as a percentage of the offender's income. Fines for traffic violations in Finland are given on the severity of the offence and the offender's income. After catching the offender, police can check the offender’s income through their smartphones.</p><p>A fine is then calculated based on the offender's daily disposable income. This disposable income is commonly believed to be half their daily net income. Say a person earns €100 in Finland daily. Then their disposable income would be €50. They would be fined based on this amount.</p><p>Back in 1921, Finland was the first country in the Nordic region to introduce an income-based fining system. Later, many European countries, such as Switzerland, started doing the same.</p><p>Finland uses this kind of fining system for a variety of offences, like shoplifting.
