<h5>What is a Supreme Court?</h5>  <p>In today’s world, most democratic countries have a system of courts. The courts are responsible for maintaining fairness and delivering justice. This means that a person can always approach the courts if they feel they have not been treated fairly and ask for justice.
The system consists of various courts located in different parts of the country. But all courts are not the same. Some courts have more authority than others.
The Supreme Court is the top-most court in a country and has more authority than any other court. It means that once the Supreme Court has made a decision, no other court can change it. On the other hand, the Supreme Court has the power to change the decision of other courts.</p>
<p>Supreme Court judges are the most qualified judges in a country. Being a Supreme Court judge is one of the highest honours a person can achieve.</p>
<p>Recently, the government of the United States (US) appointed Kentaji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Let’s find out more about her.
</p> <h5>Who is Kentaji Brown Jackson?</h5>  <p>Kentaji Brown Jackson is now a US Supreme Court judge. She was born in Washington D.C and studied law at Harvard-Radcliffe College and Harvard Law School.</p>
<p>Before her appointment at the Supreme Court, she served as a judge in various courts across the US. She is also a trained lawyer and has held many important positions in the US government. </p>
<p>Jackson’s appointment is a historic occurrence in the US. Let’s look at why this is the case.
</p> <h5>Why is her appointment to the US Supreme Court historic?</h5>  <p>Kentaji Jackson is the first woman Black judge and the third Black judge in the US Supreme Court. Since her appointment, the US Supreme Court now has four women judges out of a total of nine judges.
But that’s not all that makes her appointment historic. Black people in the US have been discriminated against for many decades. Unfortunately, this discrimination exists even now.  </p>
<p>The situation for Black women is even worse. They face double discrimination. Firstly, for being Black and secondly, for being a woman (sometimes, women are treated worse than men, which is unfair).</p>
<p>Jackson’s appointment as a US Supreme Court judge is a victory for all Black women everywhere. It shows that hard work is the way forward despite all hardships. 
</p> <h5>Are there any women judges in the Supreme Court of India?</h5>  <p>Yes, there are currently four women judges in the Supreme Court of India, out of thirty-two total judges. They are - Justice Indira Banerjee, Justice Hima Kohli, Justice B.V Nagarathna, and Justice Bela M. Trivedi.
Women's representation in the Indian Supreme Court is less than in the US Supreme Court. However, numerous women judges are serving in other courts across the country.
</p> <h5>Will we see more women judges in the future?</h5>  <p>In the past, many people were discriminated against. Women and Black people were considered unqualified to hold the position of judge. People believed they did not have the intelligence to become a judge.</p>
<p>But nowadays, having judges from different backgrounds is encouraged. Having a diverse set of judges ensures that the decisions of the Supreme Court benefit all members of society equally!</p>
<p>These days, many women are choosing law as their career option. We will most likely see more women judges in courts worldwide! 
</p>
