What did Glenn Maxwell do in the match against Afghanistan?
The ICC Men’s one-day international (ODI) Cricket World Cup is currently going on in India. On 7 November 2023, Australia played against Afghanistan. Afghanistan set a target of 292 for Australia. When it was Australia’s turn to bat, they had a tough time and lost wickets quickly.
Glenn Maxwell came to bat when Australia was 49/4 in the ninth over. Australia lost seven wickets by 91 runs. Many people thought Afghanistan would win easily, but Glenn Maxwell didn’t. He played really well and helped Australia win the match. He scored 201 runs off 128 balls.
Even though Maxwell was suffering from cramps, he didn't give up. Pat Cummins, Australia's captain, also helped. He and Maxwell formed a partnership and made 202 runs together.

Maxwell is the first person who isn't an opener in a men's ODI to score a double-century. His incredible play is the third time someone has scored 200 in the Cricket World Cup. Martin Guptill and Chris Gayle are the other two and did so in the 2015 World Cup.
Maxwell's double-hundred was the fastest in a men's Cricket World Cup match and the second-fastest in all ODIs. The partnership between Maxwell and Pat Cummins became the highest for the seventh wicket or lower in men's ODIs.
Maxwell has scored three centuries in World Cups while batting at No. 5 or lower, and no other player has done this.
