What is the Men’s Junior Asia Cup Hockey Tournament?

The Asian Hockey Federation organises a hockey tournament called the Men’s Junior Asia Cup. It is a competition for male players under the age of 21. The first tournament took place in 1988. Since then, it has been an important event to qualify for the Men's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup.

This year’s Men’s Junior Asia Cup was held in Salalah, Oman, from 23rd May 2023 to 1st June 2023. Along with Malaysia, this tournament's top three teams (India, Pakistan, and the Republic of Korea) qualified for the FIH Men's Junior Hockey World Cup 2023. Malaysia has already qualified for the Men's Junior Hockey World Cup 2023 as the host nation.

Recently, the final match of the Men's Hockey Junior Asia Cup was held. India played well and won this trophy (yay!).

Whom did India defeat in the final match?

The Indian hockey team won against Pakistan in the tournament's final match. Both teams were strong and really wanted to win. India’s Angad Bir Singh and Araijeet Singh Hundal scored a goal each.

Later, Pakistan scored a goal, making the score 2-1. Pakistan tried their best to score and beat India, but the Indian players defended well. The match ended with a score of 2-1, and India lifted the Men's Hockey Junior Asia Cup 2023 trophy.

During the group stage, India and Pakistan were in Group A. India came in first place, and Pakistan was second. From Group B, Malaysia and Korea reached the semi-finals. India defeated the Republic of Korea, while Pakistan defeated Malaysia to reach the finals.

Has India ever won this tournament?

This was India's fourth time winning this tournament. India has previously won in 2004, 2008, and 2015. Pakistan is the tournament's second-most successful team, with three trophies.
