High cost of Indian weddings

Imagine planning a big party! In India, weddings are like the biggest parties ever, and people spend a lot of money on them.

In fact, a report states the average Indian wedding costs about $15,000, which is around ₹12.5 lakh. This is almost twice the amount that families usually spend on schooling from kindergarten to college.

Weddings help many businesses make money

Because weddings are so big in India, many businesses do well because of them. Here’s how they benefit different sectors:

  • Jewellery:  Half of the jewellery sold in India is for weddings.
  • Apparel: A lot of money is spent on fancy clothes for the bride, groom, and their families.
  • Food and Parties: A big part of the wedding budget goes to food, and another big part goes towards hosting big parties and events.
Is spending so much a good idea?

Spending a lot on weddings means less money for other important things, like education.

Education helps us learn and grow, so it’s important to balance spending. But, for many, a grand wedding is a dream and a way to celebrate with loved ones.
