ISRO’s latest mission!
ISRO, India’s space agency, has just launched the country’s first Mars and Moon analog mission at Leh in Ladakh. This mission will help us learn about living on Mars and the Moon!

About the mission.

This mission will last for a whole month! It is part of India’s plan to build homes for astronauts on other planets. These homes will help astronauts stay safe and healthy while they explore space.
The mission includes a fun inflatable habitat called Hab-1. It has everything astronauts need to feel comfortable: a hydroponics farm to grow food, a kitchen to cook meals, and even bathrooms!
There is also a special room where astronauts can practice going outside into space. The habitat also has smart lights that change, like the sun, to help astronauts sleep better and use renewable energy.
This mission will collect important information to help ISRO prepare for future space adventures.
What is an analog space mission?
An analog space mission is like a practice run for astronauts. It takes place on Earth in regions with similar space conditions.
These missions help scientists learn how to solve problems in space, such as being alone and communicating less with others.
Why was Ladakh chosen for this mission?
Ladakh is an excellent place for this mission because its environment resembles the Moon and Mars. The temperatures can change a lot, from warm to very cold, just like on those planets.
Also, since Ladakh is high up in the mountains, there is less oxygen, perfect for testing how astronauts can breathe and live in space.
The sandy and rocky soil is similar to what we find on Mars and the Moon, which helps test rovers and other equipment.
