Meet Lokiceratops

Researchers have found a new dinosaur with the biggest horns in northern Montana, USA.

They named it Lokiceratops rangiformis, after Loki, the tricky god from Norse mythology. Loki is famous for his big, fancy horns, just like this dinosaur!

The Discovery

Lokiceratops lived millions of years ago! Imagine the world back then, filled with giant creatures and lush, green swamps.

Lokiceratops was as big as an elephant, weighing a lot, and measuring about 6.7 metres long.

It had no horn on its nose but two huge, blade-like horns on its frill. These horns are the biggest ever found on a dinosaur with a frill.

What’s Cool About Lokiceratops?
  • Lokiceratops' horns were different lengths, just like a reindeer's antlers. Imagine having one horn bigger than the other!
  • The dinosaur didn’t just have big horns; it also had a spike in the middle of its frill. Talk about fancy headgear!
  • Scientists think the horns might have been used to show off or to protect itself from other dinosaurs.
Where Can You See It?

Lokiceratops's fossils were found in 2019. Now, a model of its skull and a life-sized sculpture are at the Natural History Museum of Utah in Salt Lake City, USA.
