PepsiCo’s latest decision.

PepsiCo India, famous for Lay's chips, is testing a mix of sunflower oil and palmolein as a replacement for palm oil in Lay's chips. Palmolein is a liquid made from refining palm oil.

This decision has been taken as Indians are criticising companies for using cheaper and unhealthy ingredients in packaged foods.

The company also aims to reduce salt content in its snacks by 2025.

PepsiCo in the USA uses healthier oils like sunflower oil in Lay's chips. This was also said by social media influencer Revant Himatsingka, the person who pointed out Bournvita's high sugar content.

Multinational companies often use different ingredients in the same products across countries and are being criticised for it.

Recently, Nestlé was criticised for adding sugar to baby food sold in poor and developing countries while selling a sugar-free version in Europe.

Harmful effects of palm oil.

Experts warn that excessive palm oil consumption can raise cholesterol levels, increasing the risk of heart disease. Also, it may lead to weight gain, causing more health concerns.

Meanwhile, sunflower oil is beneficial for heart health when used in small amounts. Still, health experts warn against eating too much oily food.

People are glad PepsiCo India is replacing palm oil. Other companies might also do this, choosing healthier options.
