Who is Rishi Sunak?

Rishi Sunak was born on 12th May 1980 in Southampton, the United Kingdom (UK), to an Indian-origin family. His grandparents were born in Punjab when India was under British rule, while his parents were born in Africa. Sunak studied at both Oxford and Stanford (amazing!). Sunak was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Richmond, Yorkshire in 2015. He also supported “Brexit.” In February 2020, he was named Chancellor of the Exchequer, one of the most important posts in the UK government. Recently, he became the Prime Minister (PM) of the UK, replacing Liz Truss, who had earlier resigned from this post.

Liz Truss became the PM of the UK after Boris Johnson resigned on 7th July 2022. Later, on 20th October 2022, she also resigned from this post.

She resigned as the PM as a result of a failed tax-cutting plan that negatively affected the financial markets. Also, the members of her Conservative Party turned against her.

Everyone is now waiting to see how Rishi Sunak's time as the country's PM goes.

Rishi Sunak is the UK's first Asian PM and the country's youngest PM in over 200 years. He said that he would be working to uplift the country. He also aims to ease the country's economic difficulties.

Leaders from all over the world have congratulated Sunak and promised to work together to improve diplomatic relations between their countries and the UK.
