What happened in Pune?
In Pune, a famous builder's 17-year-old son hit and killed two people with a car. He was drunk and driving at high speeds. The two who died in the accident were on a motorcycle.
The car was bought in the father’s name and was unregistered. The boy also did not have a driver’s licence. The police arrested the teenager, but a juvenile court granted him bail.
In India, minors under 18 are tried in juvenile court, but those over 16 who commit serious crimes can be tried as adults.
The police said the court didn't think the crime was serious enough to deny bail. The court gave the minor tasks like helping traffic police, writing an essay about road accidents, etc.
People have criticised these bail conditions, saying they were ridiculous. Many pointed out how easily the rich can avoid punishment while others suffer.
Steps taken after controversial bail decision.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the court's decision shocking. The police have filed a revision application so that the teen can be punished fairly.
The police arrested the boy's father, the owners of the bar where he drank alcohol, and a restaurant staff member. The teenager is likely to be tried as an adult.
Things to keep in mind!

Only licensed and trained individuals should drive. You must tell everyone, including family, to avoid drinking and driving.
If someone wants to drive after drinking alcohol, tell your parents and don't ride in that car.
We must also follow proper traffic rules and drive safely within the speed limits. Remember to wear a helmet on a bike and fasten the seat belts securely in a car.
