What’s the current situation there?

After the big landslides, rescue teams are searching for people who are missing. Many families are worried about their loved ones.
In Wayanad, 45 relief camps have been set up, accommodating 3,069 people. The Kerala government has set up two control rooms for people to call for help. Two numbers have been provided: 9656938689 and 8086010833.
The army sent 200 soldiers and a medical team to help. Two helicopters were also sent to help. More rain is coming, so everyone is staying alert and ready to help!
What’s a landslide?
A landslide happens when rocks, soil, or debris slide down a hill. It can happen because of lots of rain, earthquakes, or even volcanoes. Sometimes, when people cut down trees, landslides can happen more easily.
It’s difficult to know exactly when a landslide will occur, so it’s difficult to warn people. Experts watch the weather and the land to try to predict them.
Prevention and precautionary measures.
Several steps can be taken to help prevent landslides:
Inspect at-risk areas: Officials must identify and fix risk-prone areas.
Plant trees: Trees help hold the soil in place with their roots.
Avoid risky locations: Do not build houses near steep hills.
Stay alert during rain: Listen for strange sounds like moving dirt or rolling rocks. These sounds might mean a landslide is coming.
By watching the weather and working together, we can stay safe from landslides!
