<h5>What is Halloween?</h5>  <p>The festival named “Halloween” is celebrated every year on the 31st of October. It is celebrated in many countries across the world. This festival marks the eve of the Christian feast of All Hallows' Day (Feast of All Saints), which honours all the church's saints.</p>
<p>Historians believe that Halloween originated with an ancient Celtic festival. In this festival, people lit bonfires and dressed up in costumes to ward off ghosts and evil. So, even today, the old tradition continues. People dress up in costumes and little kids go around their neighbourhood to get chocolates (You've probably seen those adorable photos on social media).</p>
<p>People gather and engage in various fun activities during Halloween. People enjoy this festival a lot. However, this year a tragedy occurred during Halloween celebrations. A stampede occurred in South Korea on 29th October 2022 when people gathered to celebrate this festival (a very sad incident!).</p> <h5>Oh no! What happened in South Korea?</h5> <figure>

      </figure> <p>A stampede occurred at a popular market in South Korea's capital, Seoul. Reports say that around 1 lakh people, most of them teenagers or in their 20s, had gathered at this place to celebrate the festival. This huge crowd clogged the area’s narrow alleyways and streets, which led to the stampede.</p>

<p>Due to this stampede, 151 people died, with 100 more injured (this is such sad news!). According to reports, 19 foreigners were among those killed. This stampede is the deadliest in recent South Korean history. This year's Halloween was the first time since the pandemic began in 2020 that South Koreans were not required to wear face masks outside.</p>
<p>Losing one’s life while going out to enjoy a festival is very tragic. The people wanted to have a good time, but this incident ruined their plans. This incident shocked the whole nation as well as the world. People and world leaders have offered their condolences.

The government will also make any adjustments and improvements required to ensure that the same accident does not happen again. The president also declared a state of national mourning.
The South Korean government will also be paying the medical bills of all those who were injured and the funeral costs of all those who died.
